NT Pro BNP test in dogs

N Terminal Pro B type Natruretic Peptide is a protein released by the heart in response to increased pressure and stress.
So NT Pro BNP test is used to know the severity of heart failure.
In dogs more than 1800 pmol per L level of N Terminal Pro B type Natriuretic Peptide is indicative of conjustive heart failure, which occurs in MVD (Mitral Valve Disease). Normal level of NT Pro BNP in dogs is <900mol/L.
NT Pro BNP test is useful to differenciate whether the problem is due to cardiac issues or pulmonary problem, as symptoms include coughing and respiratory distress.
NT Pro BNP Test is done from serum samples.
