Atropine is a cholinergic muscarinic antagonist.It works bylockingthe chemical acetylcholine.
Itis used to treat poisoning caused by organophosphorus or carbamate insecticide to reduce salivation, bronchial secretion and intestinal peristalsis.
It is also used to increase heart rate in case of bradycardia by blocking the vagal nerve.It can be used in cardiac arrest also.Atropine ophthalmic is given to enlarge the pupil of the eye by improving the flow of natural fluid within the eye.It is given in uveitis and glaucoma.
